Spare Tire Spindle

Spare Tire Spindle

Spare Tire Spindle

Part Number: OPSTIRES

This is an incredibly stout bearing and spindle designed for making your own spare tire carrier. It comes with a 1.5” diameter inner shaft, machined down to fit the included roller bearings. The outer piece is 2-1/4” OD and is machined on the inside to fit the bearings and seals perfectly.

It can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at any angle you want for your custom setup.

They come complete with Bearings, Races, Seals, & Bearing Cap.

This spindle is rated at 1.25k lbs in a stationary position (keep leverage in mind and the increased force that a long swing out can put on the spindle). When designing your bumper be sure there is adequate support at the latch side of your swing out when closed as the vibrations and movement while driving can fatigue the spindle over time. In addition to the spindle welded in at the top of the bumper, be sure the bottom of your spindle is also supported and welded in your design

We see a lot of people building their bumpers the wrong way. When you use a swingout you must have a rest for the end or you will have an inevitable stress fracture. The swingout end must be supported when at rest, just a pad of steel that doesn’t allow downward movement then situate the clamp to pull the arm even tighter against the rest to completey stop any upward movement. When following from behind you should not see any movement at all, if it moves it isn’t resting on the pad or the clamp is not tight enough
